• Welcome to the HHS Medical Academy

    If you are a student at Hartselle High School and are interested in pursuing a healthcare career, then the Medical Academy might be the place for you! Whether you want to pursue medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, or biomedical sciences, there are opportunities awaiting you in our program.

    The Medical Academy offers the following classes: 

    • Orientation to Medicine 9th Grade
    • Foundations of Medicine 10th or 11th Grade (This class will count as your health credit needed to graduate)
    • Therapeutic Services 11th or 12th Grade*
    • Medical Internship 12th Grade (2 credits)**
    • Sports Medicine 11th or 12th Grade*
    • Intro to Pharmacy 12th Grade*†
    • Human Body Structure and Function (Weighted Science Core Credit) 11th or 12th Grade
    • Medical Academy Lab (Instructor Invitation Only) 10th-12th Grade

    *Foundations of Medicine is a prerequisite for this course

    **Foundations of Medicine and Therapeutic Services are the prerequisite courses for Medical Internship

    †Additional prerequisites for Intro to Pharmacy: Chemistry and either Anatomy or Therapeutic Services

    Medical Academy Honor Cord requirements have been revised beginning with the 2021/2022 school year. Our program has experienced tremendous growth, with more courses offered. The following requirements offer Medical Academy students flexibility while maintaining an investment in our program.     Medical Internship Pathway

    3. Human Body Structure and Function, Anatomy, or AP Bio
    4. Medical Internship


    Sports Medicine Pathway
    1. Foundations of Medicine
    2. Human Body Structure and Function, Anatomy, or AP Bio
    3. Sports Medicine 11th or 12th Grade
    4. At least one of the following: Orientation to Medicine, Therapeutic Services, Medical Academy Lab HOSA Competition Team, or Student Athletic Trainer 12th Grade

    Pharmacy Pathway
    1. Foundations of Medicine
    2. Human Body Structure and Function, Anatomy, or AP Bio
    3. Intro to Pharmacy
    4. At least one of the following: Orientation to Medicine, Therapeutic Services, or Medical Academy Lab HOSA Competition Team

    Other Requirements
    HOSA Membership 10th-12th Grade

    Please note: No virtual courses will be accepted to fulfill requirements for the Medical Academy honor cord.

    National Healthcare Certification Fees (optional)- Patient Care Tech $69, EKG Tech $69
    Students meeting the required benchmark on practice tests will earn a scholarship to cover the cost of the national exams
