Degrees and Certifications:

B.M. University of Southern Maine 2008 M.M. Boston University 2012

Mrs. Kate Dupuis

I received my Bachelors degree from the University of Southern Maine in 2008, where I double majored in both Voice and Trumpet. While at USM, I was a member of an extensive list of performing ensembles: University Choir, Chamber Singers, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra, USM Opera Orchestra and multiple small groups. I had several opportunities to travel and perform abroad during my tenure at USM, including studying for a semester on the island of Lesvos, Greece at our sister school- the University of the Aegean.  I completed my student teaching with the wonderful Allen Graffam and his band program at Mt. Ararat High School and Middle School in Topsham, ME.

After I graduated from USM, I spent three years teaching in my home state of Vermont. I taught a wide variety of classes and ages ranging from kindergarten through 8th grade. Outside of the classroom, I held a conducting intern position with Bella Voce Women's Chorus of Vermont, performed in pit orchestras with multiple community and semi-professional musical theatre productions, booked solo vocal and trumpet engagements, and taught private trumpet, voice and beginning piano lessons. I also served as my school's Music Director for our annual spring musical.  In addition, I began working on my Masters degree in Music Education at Boston University, which I completed in 2012. My Master's thesis focused on curriculum development for middle school general music classes.

In the spring of 2011, we moved to the Huntsville, AL area to pursue a great job opportunity for my husband. I spent a year as the director of the PASS (Peer Assisted Study Sessions) program in the Student Success Center at UAH, and while I truly loved my position, I felt like I needed to follow my passion for music and get back in the classroom. I was hired at Hartselle in the summer of 2012, and have held the Director of Choirs position ever since. Since our relocation, I have performed with the Huntsville Community Chorus and Chamber Chorale, and have held several solo engagements around North Alabama.

I currently live in Madison, AL with my husband Rene, our beautiful children- Beckett and Avery, and our two cats, Mimi and Mookie.
