• The Hartselle High School Choral Music Department consists of over 100 singers that participate in a variety of ensembles. Each performing group has unique opportunities to showcase their talents, and all singers participate in several Choral Department performances throughout the school year. 

  • Concert Chorus is an un-auditioned choir that usually has between 50 and 75 singers. This group performs 5 times during the year- the Depot Days concert in September, Christmas concert in Decemeber, State Choral Performance Assesment in the spring, Spring concert in late April, and at Graduation in May. Concert Chorus sings a wide variety of choral literature, ranging from classical to folk, gospel spirituals and jazz arrangements. Throughout the year, singers will learn basic theory and sight singing skills with an emphasis on the Kodaly sol fege system.

    Chamber Chorale is an auditioned group of singers that are interested in developing their vocal skills beyond the training that is offered in Concert Chorus. This group focuses on more challenging repertoire and on developing independence in each singer. Usually between 15 and 20 singers, Chamber Chorale sings at all 5 of the major Choral Department performances during the year, with the opportunity to sing at outside events.

    Girls Ensemble is an auditioned group of 16 girls. This choir performs at all 5 main Choral Department performances during the year and also takes part in Solo and Ensemble festival in the spring. Additionally, this group travels to Pigeon Forge, TN each December to sing at a nursing home and as the opeing act for "Country Tonite!". In addition to singing, Girls Ensemble also requires members to dance to choreographed selections for each concert.

    Performers is an auditioned group of 24 male and female singers. This group performs at the 5 main Choral Department concerts during the year and also has many outside engagements. In the past, this group has traveled to Atlanta, New York, Chicago, Puerto Rico and beyod. Singers in this ensemble must demonstrate an outstanding ability to sing independently. Additionally, members must be proficient in sight singing, and must be capable of dancing to several choreographed selections. 

    Throughout the year, HHS Choral Department members are given several opportunities to participate in outside events. These events include: Alabama All State Chorus, Alabama All State Show Choir, Outstanding Choral Student, Solo and Ensemble festival, auditioned and un-auditioned outside groups, as well as solo singing engagements.
