Welcome to the HHS Medical Academy
The HHS Medical Academy was established in 2011 with 32 healthcare-minded students. We have experienced tremendous growth since then, adding three additional instructors and six new courses. Our academy has over 200 students enrolled in our courses annually and we have former students in a variety of professional programs, such as medical school, nursing school, pharmacy school, and physical therapy school, just to name a few. We are very proud of our students and strive to give them every advantage to achieve their personal and professional goals.
If you are a student at Hartselle High School and are interested in pursuing a healthcare career, then the Medical Academy might be the place for you! Whether you want to pursue medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, or biomedical sciences, there are opportunities awaiting you in our program.
The Medical Academy offers the following classes:
- Orientation to Medicine 9th Grade
- Foundations of Medicine 10th or 11th Grade (This class will count as your health credit needed to graduate)
- Therapeutic Services 11th or 12th Grade*
- Medical Internship 12th Grade (2 Advanced/Honors Credits)**
- Sports Medicine 11th or 12th Grade*
- Pharmacy Technician 12th Grade*†
- Human Body Structure and Function (Weighted Science Core Credit) 11th or 12th Grade
- Medical Academy Lab (Instructor Invitation Only) 10th-12th Grade
*Foundations of Medicine is a prerequisite for this course
**Foundations of Medicine and Therapeutic Services are the prerequisite courses for Medical Internship
†Additional prerequisites are required for the Pharmacy Technician course: Chemistry and either Anatomy or Therapeutic Services
Medical Academy Honor Cord requirements have been revised beginning with the 2021/2022 school year. Our program has experienced tremendous growth, with more courses offered. The following requirements offer Medical Academy students flexibility while maintaining an investment in our program. The Medical Academy is excited to announce our partnership with the National Technical Honor Society! Medical Academy students that meet the eligibility requirements will be invited to join at the beginning of spring semester. Fees- Course fee $60 (Includes required Malpractice Insurance Fee), HOSA fee $25
National Healthcare Certification Fees (optional)- Patient Care Tech $75, EKG Tech $75, Vet Tech $75
