2020-2021
My name is Shane Russell. I am starting my 16th year of teaching here at Hartselle Junior High. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of North Alabama in May, 1985 and my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with certification in Educational Administration at Freed-Hardeman University in August, 1995. I have worked as a teacher, coach, and bus driver for the past 36 years.
I have been married to my wife Rhonda for the past 35 years (as of Dec, 6). Rhonda is a kindergarten teacher at Crestline Elementary and has been in education for 30 years. Rhonda and I have two children: Our daughter Brittni, who is a stay at home mom (Micah, self-employed), has two children. Harper is 6 and Cooper is about to turn 5. Our son Seth works as a safety coordinator for Turner Construction (Sarah, stay at home mom) and has two children. Carolyn is 5 years old and Maddie is 2. Rhonda and I have been blessed with some beautiful grandchildren! We attend church at East Highland Baptist here in Hartselle.
I retired (2011) from the United States navy Reserve, Navy Operational Support Center, Bessemer, Al, where I held the position of Yeoman Chief Petty Officer. I had the privilege to serve in Balad, Iraq from March 15, 2006-September 30, 2006 as a Senior Customs Inspection Agent. I retired with a total of 23 years of military service.
My expectations for this class are very simple:
- I expect you to be prepared for class whether we are a traditional or virtual class.
- I expect you to be honest and trustworthy.
- I expect you to do your own work and turn it in on time.
- I expect you to be respectful to your fellow students.
- I expect you to work hard and earn what you receive.
- I expect you to have high expectations of me.
I look forward to having a great school year!
